Good, Low Mile, Usage P/U Truck Tires

Hi All..

My tires on my 2008 Ford F-150 have only 11K miles on them, but are now 6 years old from their manufacture date...

They are starting to show a little rot and I want to replace them... I've narrowed it down to either Yokohama Geolander A/T-S or Michelin LTX M/S2 tires.. The Michelins will total about $100 more for a set of 4....
I'd rather save the $100 and go with the Yokohama, but I don't want problems either...

I've read good and poor reviews on both tires while searching on-line....Have you experienced either of these tires.??..My size is 235/70/17...

A friend has the Michelin LTX M/S2 tires on his 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Loves the traction, ride.

Michelins hands down; I have over 66,000 on my current set, they still have about 50% of the tread remaining, and I have towed quite a bit with them. I was not a fan of Michelin in past years (due to cost and "goose eggs"), but these MS/2 on my FX4 have convinced me otherwise. When these finally ear out, I will be replacing them with another set.

The extra $100 is well worth it. I had a set of Geolanders on a 2003 Tahoe and they would not have lasted 66,000 much less have 50% of the tread remaining.

You realize the two tires you asked about are not the same type of tire?

Michelin LTX M/S 2 = Yokohama Geolander H/T-S (Highway Tire)
Yokohama Geolander A/T-S = Michelin LTX A/T 2 (AllTerrain Tire)

Michelin at least says a tire should be replaced at 10 years post manufacture, I am not sure of Yokohama's position.

Seems that 11,000 miles in 6 years neither tire will be worn out when it needs replacement from age, I'd probably go with whichever of those two I could get the best deal on.

If you are not putting a lot of miles on the vehicle annually I would say the Falkens posted by mattwithcats look good. No reason to pay for a premium brand if you are going to end up replacing them with plenty of tread due to age/dry rot. If you are using the truck that little I doubt you will notice the cheaper tires too much.

The thorny issue is a "better" tire will have more of the expensive antioxidants/ preservatives.

So on the value scale, would paying more get you so much more quality that it would work out in the end?

That's a toughie. I'd get something on the cheaper end, just so if it's a mistake, it's a smaller one.

If you don't drive it (you must not), I wouldn't see sense in splurging for the M/S2s. They are an excellent tire, but overkill if you drive 2000mi/yr, and typically the most expensive tires in their size. I'd go with the Cooper A/T3 from DTD. They wold be $120 off a set. Or like someone else said, wait until Black Friday.

Are you only interested in those two? I love BFG Radial Long Trail tires, and have had several sets on different vehicles. They are a highway tread and have low noise and very good traction and stability. If you want an all season, BFG Commercial T/A all season are nice also. My 2cents.
