NO!!!!!!!!!! That would almost assuredly ruin the o-ring. Nor is WD-40 a good lubricant for reducing friction.

Super Lube is a popular choice, but a cheap tube of silicone plumbing grease from the big box store will work as well.
Even the cheapest budget flashlights typically come with a small, often ignored, packet in the box containing a couple spare o-rings and a lanyard, so it's not the end of the world should it need to be replaced.
