Good going Verizon, you crooks!

I use Verizon for my business and they have been fantastic, reception is always the best.

I pay $260 a month for 4 phones, 3 of them Iphone's with unlimited minutes and texts, and 2GB of data. If I add another line I get a discount so the 5th one is pretty much free, I'm thinking about adding an Ipad and upgrading to four 5S's this fall.

I run a business and sometimes we have 3-4 job sites going at once with a number of subs working on them. I text most of the younger ones for a faster more efficient response. Or if they need something they text me so I have it written in my phone and don't have to remember it.

Also I have a lot of people email me things so I can view them in the field.

Also when making plans with a lot of people they are great. I have a couple text conversation going with a dozen other people over boat crews for the entire year. The texts start in May and will run to October.

My Iphones are indispensable.

I've heard good things about Verizon(service), I would call and get it sorted out.

I'm currently with Sprint and contract is up 9/20. I will likely be switching to Pageplus, it's pretty well regarded for prepaid phones and uses the Verizon network I believe. This plan would save me $558/year or $1,116/year if my wife switches also(her contract isn't up until May though). I don't use my phone too much anyways, so really no need for Unlimited everything.

It's far easier and more convenient than calling. You also do not necessarily have to interrupt what you are doing to do it. Or far less than you would to call. Also it's just easier than calling. Why do people talk via IM on the computer? Or chat rooms? Or forums? Same kind of things. Also text messages are far more private than a phone call.

It's not the occasional, convenient text, I'm talking about the obsessive texting....

I like Verizon's coverage, but thats ridiculous. I would leave them too for doing that. I have T-Mobile, not the best coverage but I have unlimited web and text, and 100 minutes for calling for $30 a month on my smart phone (I dont call much). Its worked out great for me, you cant beat $30 a month for unlimited web and text. T-Mobile is stepping up there game.

Texting = Waste of time and energy, period.

We wonder why our social skills are going down the drain, this is one of the top reasons.

I don't text, but I receive them on my work phone. What is a better way of identifying a problem to 25 people who are at different locations and may be mobile. Should someone call 25 individual people and leave VM?

Amber alerts, storm warnings, escaped convicts, nuclear leaks... it is a great way to communicate messages to large groups of people non interactively.

it's the new rulz. everyone texts because it's considered rude to call.

that's if you're under 30. if you're over 50 then you call.
and in the middle it's email.

my hearing is failing. I hate talking on the phone as I have a hard time hearing the other person. Texting is a blessing to me! I love it! Plus when my Girlfriend is late I can point out the time In My text I sent her.

Sad, but that pretty much says it.

Boost. Unlimited calls, text, email or Internet. Uses Sprint's network. starts at $55 and goes down by 5 bucks every 6 months until you hit $35.

Service is much better than AT&T that I had previously. No contract.

Virgin Mobile does $30 unlimited everything with no contract.

I'll never be on a contract ever again.

That's the problem I seem to have-not that my hearing is bad, just that AT&T's voice quality doesn't seem very good, much of the time. I've never been told that I'm not LOUD, so pretty sure it's not me. Less chance of misunderstanding when it's an email or text, and it's sometimes difficult to reach a particular person when you call (& VMs seem to be ignored, too!).

So I did some research on it. Looks like they no longer offer the 250/$5 plan. My contract is up for renewal in 11/2014.

When I warrantied a phone in July, they updated my plan for me by getting rid of the add-on that was no longer available.

I don't want unlimited texting as I don't want to pay $20 for it.

If you want reception get a sat phone.

Nothing beats sat for reception everywhere on the worlds surface.

I did a lot swap for a townhouse site 80 miles off the Cuban coast last winter on an Iridium sat phone.

Land based phones are toys compared to sat phones.

Something isn't adding up. Verizon does still offer 250 messages for $5, I have it. It sounds like when your mother got a new phone, she might have gave them the ok to switch you to a "share everything" plan with her. Last time I talked to verizon about this, they said the share everything plan is optional, so you could switch back to your old plan if you wanted to. The share everything plan does have some perks, such as unlimited talk minutes, unlimited texts, free mobile hotspot, and shareable data. With that said, I still don't like the "share everything" plans, and therefore have not switched to one myself.

I wouldn't bash verizon for this, I don't believe they have permission to touch your account without authorization from someone on the account.

How does the cost compare? We have several satellite phones at work, but the cost is in no way competitive with land based mobile phones. If one needs it, then by all means go for it, but for the average person it is too cost prohibitive (unless you have stumbled onto a serious deal).

Yup. I did that. No one would listen to me about NOT texting me and I was getting hit with fees each time plus it was ticking me off. So, I had Verizon block all texts. Now I no longer am hassled with those things.
