I bought a box of brand name sandwich baggies the other day. 120 for the price of 100 or something, like supersize me. The shelf price was $3.19.......I get home and the receipt says $4.09. Don't you hate that? All other items rang up correctly.

My first thought is that I read the shelf sign wrong but I was sure........but I wasn't going to drive back to Safeway for less than a buck. The next day I had to go in that direction, so I took the receipt and the box. The CS guy doubted me at first (?) so we walked the aisle and sure enough: $3.19 - the store policy is full $ back for misprices/wrung-up - but since he saw I had already opened the box, he gave me a fresh box along with my opened box and $4.09. Kind of a hassle for me and small potatoes, but enough incentive for the store to do it right the first time

08:13 kids are still sleeping and I need to mow!

Along the same lines, we buy our meat & produce from Publix b/c Super Target produce & meat sucks IMHO. Anyway, we were in there again on a Tuesday night at 8:00 (last night) which is the last day of their weekly ad. For 3 straight weeks now they have had the meat already priced at regular price. We always have to get them to reprice it before we go to the register. I got tired of that last night & got some free ground chuck and sirloin steak. Maybe they will learn now.

There's a store in my region (Hannaford bros) that I bought a 12-pack of beer from, and left it on that big-item shelf under the grocery basket. I paid for it and wheeled out to the parking lot then left it in the sun. Some kids must have been psyched!

I went to their customer service desk the next day with my receipt, and they gave me a free 12-er from the cooler!!!

Dang!

And in mine, it's "Dominick's"

They're pricey (they were before Safeway stepped in too) but the service is pretty good, and I've had several cases where I got free merchandise because an expired sale tag was still up.

My Safeway story; About 2 years ago I stopped by my local Safeway just for a carton of milk, when I arrived at the check-out the clerk told me she was closing and I should go to another check-out (She was still checking an earlier customers order and I only had one item) I pointed out that there was not another check-out open (it was their slow time of the day) and waved my single carton of milk, she told me another check-out would open shortly and that she was late for her break!
I then told her I was going to walk out of the store without paying if no-one would take my money, and she just shrugged.
I later sent in a report card to Canada Safeway in Alberta, but did not receive a reply.
The Clerk still works at the store.

Safeway/Vons/Pavillions do have a few real good people working for them in idividual stores, but the management of that company is the worst in the business. I never understood why my local Safeway always smelled of rotting meat and, due to extremely poor labor relations, the meat case was closed and covered in the evening so that you could not buy even packaged meat when a butcher was not on duty. They are my last choice when going shopping.
