Note: I incorrectly posted this in the Diesel Cars/Pickups/Vans/SUVs forum. My apologies.

Is anyone familiar with the Golden Stallion brand of full synthetic oil? I understand it is made by US Global Petroleum, INC. of Franklin Park, IL

I would be using it (0W20) in a 2013 Subaru Impreza with a 2.0i engine.

Quality? Shelf-life?

The local NAPA store is getting out of the brand, so it is marked down. My thought is:
1)Is are they getting rid of it because it didn't sell due to lack of brand recognition, or
2) is there potentially a problem with the oil line.

As people stated when you posted last time, it is better to just get a major brand then to take a chance with a company that has had problems with their formulations. Use a major. Mobil 1 0w20 is $25 for 5 qts at walmart, a small price to pay for peace of mind.

Ok, if you missed my previous response

I mean really? The name is the dead giveaway. Besides I am using HOT MAMA 5w30 in my car now.

Golden Stallion was one of the brands that PQIA issued an alert on last year.

To their credit at least they said they fixed the quality control problem and invited PQIA back to take some random samples which did meet the appropriate specs. Still it's not a brand I'd be too keen to try.

Penny wise and pound (dollar) foolish? There is a reason anything is cheap... Might be great oil, but what if its not? Obviously not going to be a long term choice.
