Going to the Fleet Auction Tomorrow

I am hoping to pick up one of our CVPI's for my daughter. We dropped of several unmarked and slicktops last week. Most are 2007's with about 60-75K on the odometers. Average bid is about 3-4K. I want to get one now, as this is the last year of the Panther production, and many smaller agencies will be trying to buy up the used ones, as they will not be able to afford the Taurus Interceptors.

I figure my daughter will not be able to drive on her own for another year, and it will give me time to fix up and use a few times a week as a commuter. It will get better mileage than the Titan.

I will let you know how it goes tomorrow afternoon.

My friends 2 kids each got a [X] C.H.P. car awhile back after looking at high mileage sludge monsters [all brands] from private owners...All is well.

I am thinking of getting a 2011 CVPI when they go to auction in a few years since I there is no other car worth buying...Just IMHO.

The public auction is not until Saturday, but went down today to look at what's available. Mostly 99-02 vics with an average of 150K. Rode hard and put up wet.

I think I will wait until our vehicles are put up on the block next month.

That sounds like the State of Illinois auctions.... only that most of the cars have between 220,000-250,000 miles on them... with a few cars as many as 300,000 miles.

Most sell for around $500.

I don't understand the allure of CV's. Wouldn't a stripped down compact be as easy to work on and as reliable and have way better gas mileage, which for a student matters a lot?

maybe, but if i get in an accident chances are you will be pinned and suffer serious injury in the compact. how much safety is gas mileage worth? different threshold for everybody. mike

The reason I want my daughter to have a CV, is they are big, safe, body-on-frame, with ABS and lots of Air Bags. The insurance company looks at as being safer than a little econo-box.

The CVPI is not that fast, contrary to the "Police Interceptor" badge. 0-60 in about 8.5 seconds. My Wife's Altima 2.5s is 0-60 in less than 7 seconds according to the Michigan State Police tests.

I just found out that our vehicles are on Consignment, So, I am going tomorrow to pick one out. Our agency cannot sell them direct (law and policy), but the auction house will sell them to employees for about 500 over average auction price. I can get an 2007 with 68K miles for about 4K, not including title, taxes, etc. That is where I am headed tomorrow.

Believe me I wish the CV was faster but I can live with live the CV the way it is.

That sounds like a AWESOME deal for 4K bucks with only about 68K miles....Maybe you might be lucky and get a Supervisior or Sargent car.

Alot of students in Miami-Dade and Broward County get those cars as I see them in them everyday of the week...They have some dings but are overall in decent shape...Most of those cars have over 150K miles on them...I see alot of Black and White ones being bought up down here.

For 1500 to 4K bucks it is a good deal as long as it was not a pool car that everyone used.

Bottom line it is good reliable transportation.
