Going to change oil. Should I re-use M1 filter?

An average sized filter only holds ~ 8 ounces of oil. I wouldn't remove it to drain ... just leave it on if you use it for another OCI.

+1 I plan on not touching the D+ I current have on as I to am considering a short oci cuz of winter.... ok ok here it is a cool breeze, but with 10w30 it is starting to get noisy until the engine warms up. plus my engine calls for 5w-20.

probably gonna go with a 0w30 or maybe a HM 5w-20.

I am going to do this next week with my Sonata I am using a Bosch D+ with Valvoline Nexgen but that filter will outlast the oil so I will change the oil at 4k and then leave the filter 8k

Yes -- smart move.
I do it all the time with Purolator.

Obviously one can't get all of the oil out of a used filter with a functioning adbv, without opening the inlet holes somehow. I think most refer to the oil that drains out as the filter is being removed and what can be dumped out after the filter is removed, as draining the oil out.

I have let several filters drain for about a week, then taken some Q tips and pushed a few inlet holes open, and gotten substantially more(the remainder) oil out later. After I have cut filters open the adbv didn't look damaged, but it's not something one would do/risk with a filter that would be used for 2 OCI's.

As said, most advise not even removing the filter, for gasket seal reasons, when using a filter for two oci's.

Why would you want to reuse the filter!? You are already dirty and working on the engine...just change it! I think laziness is at play here more than anything else. Find a friend with a heated garage or work fast in the cold. lol

I use that filter, I always changed it out, but I went at least 8,000 miles in conjuction with Mobil 1 synthetics. This time I'm only going 6,000 miles on my oil drains since my car is still under warranty and I don't want to push my luck anymore. I'm thinking I'm going to keep my filter on for 12,000 miles, Mobil 1 Rep. assure me it will go the distance without a hitch..I don't think a pint of oil to 6 quarts of new oil is going to really make my oil suffer.

Drain and reuse!
(Or just leave it in place and live with the thought of leaving a cup of dirty oil in the engine.)

Hey, 10 bucks is 10 bucks!

Unless your car is deathly ill and is shedding particles into the oil, the filter will not even notice 5K miles.
