Tough break, the extra 1/4 mile did him in. My bud had 20 bucks on Birdstone's nose and should collect about $700.

My kids laughed at me when I said one of those back markers, probably one that "knows" the track and knows 1.5 miles.

I was surprised at the poor quality track they ran on. Arn't the other two legs on grass?
Sprintman, all of the triple crown races are run on the dirt.
Most of the major races for 3 year olds are also run on the dirt (really a sandy mix).
