So my MIL is car shopping and basically wants Homer Simpson's car, with tail fins, a column shifted automatic, big trunk, horn that plays "la cucaracha", etc.

I think a chevy equinox is not that far off from her specs, but want to see a picture of the interior.

http://www.chevrolet.com/equinox-crossover-suv/pictures/

What a nice bunch of pictures... all of the outside! Really? Is this their idea of a virtual brochure?

This website is asinine, hard to navigate, full of high band width Flash junk, and tempts me to, er, buy a Ford or something. C'mon!

Been there, done that.

If you're shopping the Equinox, I strongly recommend looking at the Honda CR-V and the Toyota Rav4.

My signature line will tell you what I just recently chose.

Might want to do a search on GM's electronic steering.

And yes, GM's website as always sucked.

Right next to "exterior" above the pictures it says "interior". If you click that, you see interior pictures. Most manufacturer websites are setup this way. Maybe your computer needs help?

I drove all the little SUVs last year, at the time the Euinox/Terrain blew everything else away. I haven't seen a 2012 CR-V yet, but the 2011 was a joke.

edmunds has good pictures, and if you go to "build your own" there are interior pics. the equinox is very highly rated in it's class, most major reviewers put it at or near the top of it's class, as long as you don't need sharp handling. We love ours, it's got enough power, decent fuel economy, huge backseat, well designed interior, smooth and controlled ride. If you get the V6, it has enough power to satisfy most, smooth, well programmed transmission. The electronic steering in the 4 cylinder is lighter, but doesn't really have any more feedback than the hydraulic in the V6.

The real benefits over the others in it's class are definitely it's mammoth backseat. I sat back there to and from Ohio, and was plenty comfortable. Enough legroom to stretch my legs out fully, and the rear seat reclines and slides forward/back. Not something else you really find in this class.

the ride is smooth and controlled, and extremely quiet. Gauges are bright and easy to read, good seating position. The real downsides are the fuel economy, while decent, isn't best in class, real world. I recommend going with the 3.0L V6, it's got more top end power than the 2.4L, and fuel economy doesn't suffer too awful much for it.

The only real downsides are the turning circle is a bit larger than the others, It's a full 40 feet with the 18" rims, and 42.6' with the 19" rims (go with the 18s). It takes some getting used to. But overall, we are very happy with ours. 6,000 miles on it, hasn't been back to the dealer, absolutely no problems. We love it.

Not too happy about the DVD as a car manual. I SHOULD BE ABLE TO PICK UP A BOOK AND FIND WHAT I NEED! I dont ALWAYS have a computer, and ill be censored if i have to find something on DVD and dont have a computer. I like the nostalgia.

Oh and btw: Dont get an Equinox/Uplander.

Actually.. scratch that, that backseat looks HUGE! Might have found my new favorite vehicle. I haul LARGE passengers.

Nice color combo too

Er.. What? The Equinox/terrain are COMPLETELY different from the uplander. The equinox/terrain had a complete redesign for the 2010 model year, and are at or near the top of the class. We own one, and we did test drive the RAV4, CR-V, Sante Fe, and Edge just to compare. For the money, and overall, the Equinox was by far the best.

Yes i must have been thinking of Terrain.

Seems this SUV is better than i thought.

Please see my EDITED post, thanks.

Should i look at MY2010, 2011 or 2012?

No, the Terrain and the 2010+ equinox are the same vehicle, different sheetmetal. Go with the 2012, a few tweaks over the 2011. And again, spring for the V6. The 4 cyl is very difficult to achieve the rated 32mpg highway, and the extra power is nice to have anyway.

Even with the correct interior part of the website located Chevy still stinks!

Looking at other web sites that actually SHOW the interior unlike Chevy on the model that the OP asked about.

Look at the following;

Look at Ford and their Edge. Shows the interior.

Kia and their Sorento

Toyota and their Highlander.

And so on.....

All ACTUALLY show the interior instead of stupid pics of things that don't really matter like close ups of the Onstar button, stitching of the seat (which most models DON'T have leather) and console shots. The only photo of the seats is the one shot of the rear. Really?

So I agree with the OP even after we found the interior section. Their web shots stink. Esp when compared to the other manufactures that are competing for the customer.

And GM needs to do their instrumentation clusters better (Actually most mfg do) The Sonic which I saw the other day must have designed by someone who rides way too many motorcycles. That alone would make sure I never bought one!

You are nitpicking the instrument panel? Wait a minute, what exactly is wrong with this?

Or this?

I quite like them. I don't like the old simple style like the cavalier had. I don't find anything wrong with it actually looking nice. I quite like the sonic myself, it's a cool looking cluster- and most reviewers agree. It's personal taste, but I like them.

Glare city. Your photos prove it. Both of them.

Don't like the rings going different directions. Like the middle one over the top one by far. But the glare kills it for me.

As someone who spends way too much time in a vehicle I'm picky.

Bill

PS: The Sonic is just stupid in design. It IS a deal killer for me. I *like* the sedan from the outside but once I saw the cluster it was over.

You never notice the reflections in them, unless the sun is shining at precisely the right angle. And I've never driven a car that didn't have that- my focus, the expedition, the jeep, all of those had glare on the panels too.

It's personal taste, but I think the panel on the sonic is cool. It's unique, it's easy to read and just looks different.

I don't find any of those to be particularly easy to read. Not enough contrast and the numbers are too small. They should be horizontally oriented digits, too.

I have had a few Cruze rentals lately and their clusters drive me nuts compared to the Nissans/Toyotas I get.

Perhaps my Audi has spoiled me in that regard.

What I like about our GMs is that they have the option to display the speed in the DIC digitally. I use that more than the actual dial.

I noticed that too, though the only time I really found it useful was when I was setting the cruise control.
