GM PS fluid

I had to buy some when I put a new steering box on my 92 plow truck and no its not an ATF. Looked more like a hydraulic oil. There are 2 versions, normal and cold climate.

Well you could use Valvoline Synpower PS Fluid and get it really good. Works really well.
I know it's not a Vette, but I use Valvoline Synpower PS fluid in my '00 Grand Am GT. Work fine for me.
I've been using Valvoline Synpower PS fluid lately as well in my GM vehicles with good luck. Actually I've used all sorts of brands in the past and never had trouble with any of them. Almost any generic PS fluid is made for the GM spec. I believe the Synpower lists the spec. on the bottle and it wasn't a lot more money than the "cheap" stuff when I stocked up last time so that is what I got. I've used it in a '94 Grand Prix, '96 Roadmaster, and '01 Grand Prix. Look on the bottle of whatever you get for the GM spec. and you should be fine.
If you have the factory chassis service manual OR the appropriate owners manual, the GM part numbers for all service items are listed in the manual (usually in the rear of the owners manual) or in the appropriate area of the chassis service manual.
GM has NOT recommended the use of ATF in a passenger car or light truck power steering system since (at least) 1965 or so. Same with Chrysler (although the newer fwd cars might be different). Motorcraft ATF (Mercon/Dexron III) mentions that it can be used in power steering systems--but read the owners manual/service manual as Ford's fluids have been non-universal for many years.
I think the "Cold Climate" GM power steering fluid (usually spec'd for Corvettes) could be synthetic fluid or some sort of blended synthetic--key word is "think".
Most aftermarket psf is a multi-spec fluid, but usually includes the GM spec in the list.
ATF might be a similar viscosity as PSF, but the additive package is different. ATF will make a normal power steering system leak, but the leak/seep will go away when the fluid is flushed and changed back to PSF -- by experience.
