GM Power Steering Fluid

The owners manual for my 2000 Silverado says to use GM Power Steering Fluid P/N1052884, or equivalent. I have a little bit of that left in a metal can, that must 10+ years old. I also have a fairly new bottle of GM Power Steering Fluid P/N 89020661. Goodwrench.com lists a P/N 89021184. Are these all equivalent?

I would definitely dump the 10 year old fluid. Usually if the part numbers are different then you need to assume it not the same product. That said, I use royal purple P/S fluid in my GM trucks because it exceeds all the GM p/s specs. So, if the other fluid is newer than the 2000 spec it's most likely Ok.

GM part numbers can change over time.

Believe GM has a cold weather P/S fluid.

Likely time for a call to the dealer, just to be safe.

There are people who collect that stuff. You might be able to sell it. Then use the funds to buy a premium ps fluid.

defnitely don't use the 10 year old fluid. I bought supertech power steering fluid to do my 96 Pontiac sunfire 6 months ago. no problems with leakage, sound, or steering issues at all.

I just used Dexron III in my 98 cavalier when I flushed out the PS system; which was over a year ago.

I thought I've read you shouldn't use straight xmssn fluid, which Dex III is, in a GM power steering system.

*shrugs* Does not leak or make noise (except at full lock).

Most autos used transmission fluid for the power steering for decades. P.S. fluid and ATF are similar to hydrolic fluid anyway. Maybe they can sell P.S. for more that ATF.
