Anyone familiar with compatible aftermarket GM power steering fluid options? I'm going to add a p/s cooler to my 3500 truck, and I'll need to add some fluid for the additional capacity. I don't much care for the local Chevy dealer, and I wondered if there is a reasonable alternative at an Advance Auto Parts, Napa, or Autozone, which are all close to me. I'd like a compatible fluid so I don't have to do a full drain and fill.

Thanks.

I was having some power steering problems (fluid getting dirty quickly, steering not smooth and difficult turning)in my 1997 Chevy Venture. I tried emptying and refilling the reservoir several times, but didn't help. Then I tried a power steering flush and Valvoline Synthetic Power Steering fluid meeting the GM spec, and all is well.

Yes I am familiar with it on my GM Truck !!

DON'T use Valvoline SynPower PS Fluid like I did.

As soon as I sucked out my GM fluid and poured in the SynPower, it started Groaning turning it to the left.

It has not stopped in the last 30k miles! I have tried more, tried Lube Control additive for it, nothing is working to resolve it.

Yours may or may not do it, but please don't take the chance knowing this...........

First you need to find what gm spec to meet. This should be in your owners manual if you have it. I have a 93 gm vehicle and I have been running the supertech ps fluid in it. It comes in a 12oz. bottle and is the perfect refill size for when I pull the return hose and drain it.

I had the exact same problem as tpitcher with Synpower in my '02 Silverado. GM Cold Climate p/s fluid fixed the problem for me.

Yeah, sorry, I should have put in more info. I have an '06 3500 with the Duramax, so the P/S fluid is also used as the brake booster system. I'm not sure what the GM spec is; I'll have to check when I get home.
