ON, Canada eh?
Does anyone have a GM vehicle with a OLM who follows it using conventional oil (preferably) and has done a used oil analysis when the vehicle had low % of life left or no life left to see what the oil condition was?

I'm looking to quantify how accurate these GM OLM seem to be with conventional oil and their calculations.

GM IMO has the best OLM.

That is fine... Can you show me a used oil analysis where it was 50%? I can then just extrapolate sort of the numbers...

Yeah I just wanted to know in one thread where we could see used oil analysis versus mileage left or % left on the OLM.

I can give you two used oil analysis for an OLM equipped 2.4L VVT Ecotec, but they were with Syntec and Pennzoil Platinum, not dino.

I think the Syntec was down to 16%.

I'm into a decent run w/GC. Not a lot of miles, but a fair amount of DD. This 1.8VVT Ecotec doesn't give a percent countdown, but merely blinks at 20% or something. I don't plan a used oil analysis, but this may be one of the longer ocis I run. Still breaking in at 8k.

The only OLM used oil analysis that I've seen out of whack were some of the newer DI GM's with that 3.6(?) V6. It appears to be a YMMV thing there.

Otherwise, pre DI, I've never seen one taken to a low percentage ever being over extended. They've been everywhere from 3500 up to 12k+

Hopefully these images aren't too big.

Castrol Syntec

13,042 kms, OLM at 16% (Spring/Summer/early fall driving)

Pennzoil Platinum

10,959 kms, OLM at OLM at 5% (Late fall & Winter driving)

Biased as one would expect to account for the winter driving. Even at low numbers it still had some left to give.

I just wanted to see how accurate it was and how GM did their homework.

Wish my truck had an OLM. But then again it probably wouldn't go far a long time considering the nitration of the oil shoots up rather quickly because of the engine design.

Steve - I have some data, but it's a bit drawn out.

My Dmax HDEO used oil analysis was for around 6k miles last year.

I don't have a DIC system controlled by the steering wheel controls (because it's a basic work truck). The OLM and FFLM are reset by tap-dancing in a particular sequence on the fuel and brake pedals in my truck. I can never pull up the % of life remaining on demand; rather, it only displays a message on the DIC at the dash when the characteristic reaches 10% left.

So, last year I purposely didn't reset the OLM at the time of the OCI/used oil analysis so I would see just how much further PAST my annual OCI the OLM would perceive I could go. Ended up being nearly just shy of 2x the annual OCI; so I would approximate that to be around 11k miles.

So, you can do a very rough interpretation with my used oil analysis based at 6k miles, and my OLM pointing toward around 10.5k miles, or maybe as high as 11k miles? It's tough to know because my access to the OLM data is only at the convenience of the OLM, and not my spontaneous quest.

Here's the used oil analysis:

The OLM message popped up around 10.1k miles, but that only comes on when the 10% factor is remaining, so I can't say for sure where the 5% or 3% or 1% limit would have been. It's likley that I would have got 10.5k or 11k out of the official OLM lifecycle.

Not bad, considering I ran conventional Rotella 10w30 and pulled a travel trailer for many of the miles ...

Also, there was a PCMO used oil analysis here earlier this year (not my thread) that I'll try to find where a guy ran around 9k+ miles on his OLM with conventional oil in a Chevy car (Malibu?) and the OLM and used oil analysis were in reasonable agreement, as I recall.

If you want Stevie, search for my cadillac cts 3,6l vvt in the used oil analysis section. I've rune full OLM run and I think one 25% left. and did also, I think, a almost 50% run.
