Gm l87 engine failures?

Looks like they changed up the 6.2 that I always thought was called an ls. Now it's an L87. When are these manufacturers going to stop changing designs that work?

Well there was a L92, L9H, L94 LS3, LS9,LT1, LT4, LT5, L86, L87. These are LS and LT based 6.2s. I am probably forgetting some. I know I am.
All 6.2 liter displacement engines.

L87 replaced the L86 in GM trucks and SUVs.

L86 and L87 are almost identical but have different fuel management systems. AFM VS DFM

Edit: to answer your question. Never. They have to adhere to EPA, CAFE and government standards while trying to get better.
If they didn't we would still be driving flat head 4s. I don't need that in my life.

I just saw an article online saying they were having complete internal failures. I assumed that was the latest engine. I'm not a gm fan unless it's a c5 vette

Apparently it covers all L87's as far as the scope of the nhtsa's investigation which is 19-24 but its suspected to be the ones produced in 22 and 23. I wouldn't be surprised if my 21's L87 is subject and could blow. It's got 43k but It's definitely full of oil.

Well, it would perhaps identify sufficient change to the engine that they would want to know for the evolution of the engine. Requirements change. Seems logical to me.

Pure speculation on where this engine came from....The "Heat Tab" alone makes me question it's origin!

The damage is inline with a Hydro lock event in my opinion.

Side note.....Using a two jaw puller on the balancer is pretty hokey!

I wonder if it will boil down to oil consumption being the root cause?, AFM/DFM 6.2L's are known to consume more oil than their 5.3L counterparts.

Far as I can tell....Gen V rotating assemblies have remained the same since 2014....The DFM block is different, But the same differences exist in both L84 & L87 engines.

There is nothing GM sells that interests me except the Corvette. Mary Barra should resign for what she's done to that once great company.

so it seems it is a supplier issue? Probably some Chinese owned and operated Mexican facility?
