I was scheduling my Tahoe for its 20K mile tire rotation and balancing when the Service Mgr asked if I planned to have the injectors cleaned at 30K. He claims that vechicles that get this cleaning every 30K run much better when they reach higher mileage. I asked him the details on the produce. He did say that is is a GM branded product that is added to the fuel supply. He is going to give some info to me on Tuesday when I bring in my car.

Does anyone know about this GM dealership injector cleaner? Is it something worth getting or simply re-labeled Techron in a GM/AC Delco bottle? My hunch is that it is simply a way to drive up the sales $ for the service department.

Any GM Techs out there?

Im sure the GM injector cleaner is a quality product, but all service writers/managers like to offer 'extra' services to the work order.

Ding Ding Ding, give the man his prize!

Best bet ... stick with high quality fuel to start with such as any from the "top tier" listed fuel companies.

Second best, run your own Techron Concentrate through the vehicle once per year, preferrably one tank of gas before changing the oil.

The GM Fuel system cleaner is the same thing as Chevron Techron. GM also has fuel injector cleaner which I'm going to assume is the same as Chevron's other fuel injector cleaners.

I bought a bottle of GM's fuel system cleaner a few years ago and the bottle was identical to the Techron bottle and even said Chevron on the bottom of it.

Thanks for the feedback. It is interesting that the GM material is in a Chevron bottle. I will buy the 20 oz. bottole of Techron for $9 and add it myself.

That link on Top Tier gas was good info. I have been using Exxon because I thought it was a premium brand, but I guess not. We don't have many Chevron stations here in central NC, but you can find them on occassion. I might be switching over to Shell soon!
