This reminds me of when K-Mart took bankruptcy and then bought Sears. I realize K-Mart held wealth in their real estate holdings, but how was that kept from their creditors and out of the bankruptcy proceedings? BTW, the price of Sears stock performed very well after the buyout by K-Mart.
Now this gets just wierd, GM is losing money, and Chrysler is losing more than GM. So, GM wants to buy Chrysler and things will be all better? For whom?

That was a bad merger from the get-go. Chrysler was bigger and healthier than Daimler at the time. Chrysler should have been buying Daimler. Then after Chrysler carried them through their own doldrums and they sucked it dry of all innovation, they turn around and jettison it. Remember the "Dr Z" and the "German engineering" campaigns at the end? Iacocca must have been crying.

What a disaster. Good riddens to the Germans.

I don't think GM can afford it, but I'd like to see the old company back in American hands.

Market share ego. This would put them way up against Toyota. Bigger is better, uh...

Oh yeah, GM getting out of minivan segment, this puts them in as #1, without tool up. Still, a loss is a loss...

GM hasn't had a minivan worth buying in years. If they buy Chrysler, then they'll finally have one that IS worth buying.

I think the reasoning is that GM is getting stronger everyday and they predict that they will have the means to bring Chrysler around as well.

I'm not buying into this at all. It makes no sense why GM would want to take on another company with an American UAW work force that's hampering their efforts to reduce their prices. GM could do much better buying Nissan, Hyundai or a Chinese car company.

Well they certainly aren't going to buy chrysler if the price is really steep. If GM can get chrysler for cheap and make it profitable it could be the best decision they ever make. I'll take a profitable Chrysler over a profitable import company any day.

I would love to see GM or Ford buy Chrysler.I think that GM/Ford could turn around Chrysler and build a world class car like Toyota and other high quality imports.I don't want to see 13,000 people loose their jobs but the auto industry must start building a better car/truck for the US consumer. If you want to keep American jobs than you must build a world class product

.I own a Chrysler product(Jeep)and the quality could be 100% better but you also must have 100% dealer service like Lexus has and Lexus quality to go with it.If an outsider must be than let it be Toyota/BMW.Even Daimler Benz quality is not what it once was. When you build for the masses like cheaper "Baby Benze"the quality will go down hill.I think Chrysler has some great designs but quality/dealer service must improve.Joe
