a friend has a 2001 GMC 2500 pickup and his fuel gauge only registers full to half tank, then it sticks at half tank until he fills it up again.

this is in toronto. there was a big bruhaha in the media over this with alot of GM vehicles and they're blaming the fuel retailers and the fuel retailers are blaming GM.

the question is, is there anything worth trying in terms of injector cleaners/gas additives to help with this issue. from what I understand, it's the sender in the fuel tank thats getting contaminated with something in the gas.

The sensor is permanently damaged by elemental sulphur which was in the Petro-Canada and Shell pipelines by accident (it was from diesel fuel).

GM did a recall I believe and issued a redesigned sensor. Have your friend get it replaced.

Most of the GM FUel Tank Modulkes have a sensor kit available. The kit has a float and printed circuit card that attack to the module. It will set you back $50 parts.

Is this something a dealer parts counter will stock (and know about)? Or do i need to get it somewhere on the 'net.

My '98 GTP seems to hang around half tank for 200 miles. then plummets.

ferb!
