GM "Allison" 1000

Learned today that the Allison 1000 in D-Max trucks was never made by Allison themselves, but was licensed to manufacture from Allison to GM. I just bought a new D-Max and was seeing conflicting info about what type of fluid to use.
Finally called Allison, and got the low down. In short DexVI is the only fluid to use for GM tramsmissons, period. All the TES-295 TES-389 stuff does not apply to The GM Allison 1000.
GM told me that any other fluid used during warranty would void it, and Allison told me after warranty, use TES-295 fluids. But both will be adequate for any use under normal service intervals.

Allison used to be a part of GM Powertrain, but was spun off (due to the bankruptcy I imagine) in 2007 to The Carlyle Group and Onex Corporation.

Detroit Diesel used to be part of GM too,as was Harrison heating/AC components,and Guide lamps,Saginaw,and New Departure bearings....

When GM sold Allison they kept the rights to produce the A1000, And Baltimore Transmission Assembly where their built. So what you learned is (in a way) false.

The deal is GM honors your warranty not Allison, Your suppose to use GM spec ATF. But if you did use a TES-295 fluid....How would GM know?

Normal service intervals for your truck.
45,000 miles....Replace spin on filter.
97,500 miles....Replace spin on filter & ATF, 2,500 miles from warranty expiration???

All you would need is a receipt for a Filter & a quart of Dexron VI for top off to keep your warranty 'til 97,500 miles.
