Any tips on dropping the pan to service the filter without dropping exhaust from the manifolds ? I've seen dropping exhaust from rear hangers and raising trans. from its rear mount videos but I'd like some input from real experiences. You know how some of these online video are.
Experienced wrench here also. Manifold disconnect is a PITA vs a workaround by someone who's done it regularly. Bad enough dealing with filling it back up.
TIA

Good question, I had a 2009 SIlverado that was a pain in the rear like yours. If I were you once you do it, install a drain plug on your pan or get an aftermarket pan for less painful drains in the future

On my older Yukon I cut the exhaust B-pipe and flanged it so it can be removed where it goes under the trans pan. I just ordered v-band flanges and some 2.5" mandrel bent stainless pipe to do the same on the '19 I just purchased. I know there are some differences between the trucks and SUV pans, but on the SUV you can just slip the pan past the filter if you slide the gasket away from the pan flange.

drop the exhaust from both manifolds. very easy with a short socket, universal and long extension with an impact. usually soak them with blaster a day or so before the work. no way around letting the exhaust hang. good luck filling it as well.

The stealership drain/refill service on a 10L involves dropping the pan, using a fluid extractor wand to vacuum all of the fluid, then reinstalling the pan using the existing gasket.

But @clinebarger is probably the best person to answer this question.

absolutely want to change the filter on a 10L. they will plug up and then lose any movement.

100% Filter needs changed. You can't fix the valvebody without getting the pan and filter out of the way. This is a Gen 1, and TransGo makes a good kit for it. The Gen 2 have valve wear issues that should be addressed too.

I pull the exhaust from the manifolds, The 2 heat shields on T1 platform trucks make a little bit more of a pain than K2 trucks.

Spray the 6.....15mm headed nuts down with penetrating oil a few minutes before putting the impact to them.
I have a 1/2" drive Snap-on 11-1/2" impact extension & a 1/2" drive Snap-on Semi deep 15mm impact swivel that make quick work of the nuts.

If you want to pry on your exhaust.....That's your business, Can't do that to customers vehicles.
