All this talk of Mobil1 recently has got me going thru my stash of oil. Found 1.5 qts of M1 0w-20 SL and 2.5qts of M1 5w30, all from pre-Katrina production dates (late 2004). Forgot how carmel-colored the SL-spec was compared to the near-clear SM-spec oils.

So I'm giving my beloved PP a break and using M1.

Don't know if I'll be able to sleep at night as the higher iron the UOA's will cause me much grief. LOL

Carry on...

Drain it fast before your engine is ruined!!! We all know that M1 wears out engines before their time. Just look at all the reports of engines that have low mileage wear problems.

That 'pre Katrina' stuff is just a baby....I'm about to put pre Tri Synthetic Mobil 1 in my car. I have 6 quarts of unopened 5W30 SH rated 'Advanced Formula' Mobil 1 from circa 1995 that I plan to use next. Good Stuff!

Would you guys use post Katrina Mobil 1, a product that did not have listed API/ILLSAC specs on the bottle, and likely resulted in Valvoline claiming 4 times better wear and that Mobil 1 did not meet basic API test standards, if you knew it was a 100% fact that it was the post Katrina oil?

I'd have drained that stuff into the oil recycle bin, let alone returned it to Walmart. I wouldn't want one of my fellow citizens pouring that engine death in a bottle into their engines.

There.

Go back to the late '05 and '06 topics, there's a TON of post-Katrina chatter here. Formulas were changed as a result of that storm, those changes lead to a lot of talk here.

LOL shhhh don't tell anyone but I do have some post-Katrina oil on hand. lol

The AutoZone near me still has a sign by the Mobil 1 bottles saying that they apologize for the lack of Mobil products, and that the shortage is due to damage due to Hurricane Ike.

Of course, Ike was in 2008, and the sign remains up today. I don't have the courage to tell them...

(Oh, and the racks are constantly full with Mobil 1 products. There's no shortage at all.)

If you'd actually research things instead of humping Lee Raymond's leg, you'd find that everything I stated is true!

Bad mental image alert.

Aside from their little problems a few years back, I do think Mobil 1, especially the 0w-40, is once again a top notch product. But it's pretty much a fact that "something" happened after Hurricane Katrina to Mobil 1.

Sorry about that Pablo! Lee Raymond just standing there in a suit is enough to give nightmares...
