i just went into my local parts store to get a cartridge filter for my 2010 camry LE.

it was over 9.00!!!!!

so i asked the salesperson if there was anyway to get a discount, she said if i bought oil with it she could "hook me up".

i told her i was going to use motorcraft semi-syn 5/20 in my new camry (it retailed for 16.99 for a 5qt jug)

after the "hook up" i left the store only paying 12.71 total for 5 qts of motorcraft and a 9.00 filter! (thats like .15 - .20 cents a quart if you pay retail for the filter)

next time you are in your store, give it a try, just ask you might be surprised what the sales person will do to get your buisness.

chain.

i guess with everyone hurting for buisness, they are doing what it takes to get it.

She may have given you a discount by punching the items in under one of the local shop accounts. Most parts stores can wheel and deal a little with discounts.

Most shops that have accounts with parts stores see about a 20% discount or better on parts, then crank them up to full retail when they work on your car. It's just hard to watch these shops do this to their customers and charge the insane "labor" costs too.
