A picture of the Gifford Fire from August 13th. It’s the biggest fire in California this year and has burned 135K acres so far. The Garcia Wilderness area was completely consumed. Fire started August 1st at a trailhead off Hwy 166 and is considered "suspicious".

The northwest corner is proving difficult to contain. Pozo is just 2 miles away from the advancing NW front. Santa Margarita is just 6 or 7 miles away. No way will Margarita burn, and I think Pozo will be saved as well. Let's hope!

I took the two fire pictures. The first picture is heading southbound on Hwy 101 through Atascadero. The second is at the Hwy 58/Pozo Road intersection, which is about 15 miles from our house. I drive my cars and ride my bikes out in the Pozo area. Classic California countryside. Beautiful.

My wife almost took a job with the Rand Corporation and we nearly bought a home in the Mission Hills neighborhood of LA. California fires was/is a scare point to me.

There was a report in Noozhawk that a motorist was seen driving on a rim after getting a flat tire.

It's possible, but I have my doubts. It is my belief these claims are made to discourage copy cat fires. In other words, if some whacked out arsonist is setting fires, acknowledging that fact is the worst thing to do because it brings out all the copy cats.

At any rate, I *hope* it was a flat tire that caused it, rather than it being set on purpose.
