I noticed that Brian has started using the latest version of Mobil 1, with the reduced additive levels, in his next round of testing. Blackstone did a baseline test of the formulation and measured a TBN of 9.6, which is bit lower that the GF-3 rated, Mobil 1, 5w30 he used the last time around. The engine was flushed with Mobil 1 for 3000 miles before starting the test, so there are no residual wear metals to skew the initial results.
I'll be interested to see if this stuff holds up as well for a full year, as well has how the wear rates and oxidative thickening compare to the old, GF-3 formulation....
