I noticed that Brian has started using the latest version of Mobil 1, with the reduced additive levels, in his next round of testing. Blackstone did a baseline test of the formulation and measured a TBN of 9.6, which is bit lower that the GF-3 rated, Mobil 1, 5w30 he used the last time around. The engine was flushed with Mobil 1 for 3000 miles before starting the test, so there are no residual wear metals to skew the initial results.

I'll be interested to see if this stuff holds up as well for a full year, as well has how the wear rates and oxidative thickening compare to the old, GF-3 formulation....

We don't really know how consumers will accept the EP product at this point. I just can't see EM keeping two product lines like this for long!!! I expect the product line to see some consolidation within the year. It's just taking up too much retail shelf space.

These products will probably merge and any tests now won't be 100% meaningful, imho.

We may see an SM/GF-4 EP soon enough. EM can do it.

There were also no residual wear metals in the 3000 mile flush oil. Guess that puts one issue to bed.

I personally think it's a waste of time to test Mobil 1 all over again, but at least it would've been nice to see the EP stuff tested instead.
