Getting ready for my first Oil Analysis...

2006 Jeep Liberty CRD (2.8L Intercooled Turbo Diesel)

First engine was replaced at 8127 miles...freak failure

Odometer now at 20647 (12520 on new engine/turbo/egr)

Break in oil changed at 9548 miles with Rotella Syn 5W-40 and Pure One filter

13504...Rotella Syn 5w30 and Fram Tough Guard

17115...Amsoil Series 3000 5w30 HDD and Amsoil EA034 Oil Filter

18603...Amsoil EaA201 Air Filter

Fumoto Drain Valve

Questions:

1) Which "LAB" do you suggest?

2) What specific tests should I ask for?

3) Warm the engine up and take sample after a quart or so comes out (6.4 system)?

"Oil sample will be taken in the next 500 miles or so"

I have done a lot of business with Blackstone Labs recently and have been happy. For some services I use other labs, but for the regular used oil analysis they are great and priced well. Butler labs is also another good labs.

I would get either a TBN or TAN or both. TBN will show the amount of active additive left and the TAN will show how well the additives are keeping up. Other than that a regular UOA will be fine. I don't think a particle count is really necessary for what you are probably looking for.

Doesn't really matter if you take the sample hot or cold, just let some drain out before you sample so you get a good sample and not the sediment around the drain plug. In some cases a cold sample may show some moisture. Tell the lab if you take the sample hot or cold and they will adjust for the moisture.
