Getting gas from a car

On a side note this is why I think its great to have vehicles with long legs, 500 miles on a fill is great, more is better.

4 days without fueling up is normal for me, I usually go 2 weeks.

My truck's tank plus two 5 gallon jerry cans is good for about 650-700 miles. That should be good enough to drive out of any disaster area.

My father in simply connects a 1750W inverter to the battery of his 1997 F150 and lets it idle away. I believe you only burn 1/4 gallon/hour doing it and with 20+ gallons lots of time there.

He runs the essentials including a high efficiency HW boiler, his cable TV, lamp and they have natural gas for cooking. Works well.

I didn't know there were such things. How is this possible? Seems like sticking a hose into the tank and sucking it out would be hard to defeat?
