I dont know the whole wix part # since its worn off but it is a short version of a wix 51348/fram 3614...was on a kohler command...both briggs and kohler use this short version in some applications...we put the longer filter back on...no idea how long this was in use...i had to cut down the side since it was removed with pliers and couldnt get the cartridge out otherwise.

Look at all the media surface area!

A friend's Kohler Command (22 or 25 HP) takes a WIX 51056. That little bugger costs ~$10.50 at a place where I think they like me!
I was told all the little engine filters are expensive.
Why would that be?
Is that everyone's experience? Is there a way to get 'em cheaper?

I suppose I'm whining a bit. Kira

That's the first "Wix" branded filter I've seen with the combo valve. Interesting.

As always, thanks for cutting and posting!

The OP's Wix labeled filter does use a combo combo valve. However, it (51056) is a lawn and garden, outdoor equipment filter application only, not intended for passenger car and truck use.

The longer version which is designed and spec'd for pc use is the 51348 (as noted) or NG 1348, and it specs a silicone adbv and Wix traditional thread end bypass. I have one here cut open after 5k oci, just haven't gotten to post it yet.

And part of the reason for the small element, is the combo valve grommet takes up space where media could be. The same would be true if it used Wix' thread end bypass too, but it becomes especially noticeable in smaller applications like the OP's.

Thanks for the pics.

Highly doubt that. Did someone cut open this filter to verify that?

Regardless the picture disproves your repeated contention that Wix only uses the combo in "cheap" filters and nothing with the Wix name on it.

In all fairness I'd never seen it in a Wix branded filter before either.

What? Just looking at it it looks like where is is glued into the end cap looks almost as long as the exposed media.

With this lawn and garden/outdoor equipment application in mind, I'll add an addendum now and for future use and accuracy. Until proven otherwise, no Wix branded filter spec'd for passenger car(pc) or truck use, specs a combo valve shown in this filter.

The longer Wix/NG pc equivalent filter spec'd and designed for automotive use, the 51348/NG1348, uses silicone adbv and metal thread end bypass.

Photos above are far from the glue taking up almost half of the media area. That's why cutting and inspection is the only true way to prove what's going on, as the OP just did.

It was a comment aimed at the physical length of the element being short. I wasn't saying that there was anything wrong with the filter.

And if one shows up for an automotive app, what then, another addendum? It won't count because it's a rare Subaru? Your absolute refusal to admit you could possibly be the slightest bit wrong about the most trivial point is killing any chance for real discussion and learning between us amigo.

I guess the above quote is as close as I will ever get from you.

I appreciate your contributions here they are often excellent but we'd all be better off learning and experimenting together.
