Our clean 2006 TSX was recently rear ended, not bad but a new rear bumper was required. Contacted our insurance, Ameriprise, and they handled everything.
Cut us a check based on pictures and said they would deal with State Farm (I think), the other gal's insurance.
I wanted Acura parts, but they said they only pay for factory parts for a certain period of time, maybe 2 years; I forget.
So we paid the difference; something like $200 maybe.
The other insurance paid Ameriprise back; both insurance offered us a loaner but we did not need it.
The deal is, if the shop sez there is more damage; they call Ameriprise and they pay them directly.
Easy peasy. The work was outstanding!

So, call your insurance and tell them what happened. They are supposed to be on your side and act as your (sort of) attorney.
You can use any shop you like, ast least in CA.
You should visit several shops and see the cars they have worked on.
There was a new Aston Martin waiting for a scratch fix; I figured we were in the right place.

You can negotiate any price or decision.
Good luck.

"Supposed" is a strong word. It should be better with someone else's insurance and not being your fault, but generally, the only side they are on is their own.

I did not file police report but geico has accepted fault without argument. Police around here won’t come out unless there is injury and even when they do come out all they do is swap insurance info for you in a nice typed up form on their tough books. They don’t write up who’s at fault or anything and since this guy didn’t run or argue that he wasn’t at fault I don’t see it being an issue. Should have thought of that Sunday though I guess.

I told geico I’d like an adjuster to go to the shop of my choice but their mobile adjusted are supposedly slammed due to our recent hail storms so it’d be faster for me to keep my appointment a week out and drive to their stationary adjuster then take it to my shop. I got tired of requesting it be taken care of faster, I wasn’t getting anywhere with multiple customer service people.

Given the year of the vehicle you should get new parts since A/M probably isn't available yet. In order to get the repair process started take it to their drive in location. GEICO will generate an estimate of record and give it to you. The estimate has all of GEICO's contact info so just take the GEICO estimate to the shop of your choice, if there is additional damage, price difference etc the shop will call GEICO to request a supplement. Remember the initial estimate is just that an ESTIMATE of the damages and is a starting point not a final repair invoice. Geico will issue a payment based on the initial estimate, but that does not mean that they will not issue a supplemental payment for any differences to the shop. Also take note, if you have a loan on the vehicle GEICO cannot issue payment just to you, they must protect the interest of the lien holder, that can be done by 2 ways, a 2 party check made payable to you and your lien holder or to you and the shop, it is much easier if you tell them to issue payment to you and the shop of your choice, and take it to your shop. Supplemental payments will be issued directly to the shop.

However down here in Texas there are many decent shops that either waive deductible, or pay partial deductible depending on what kind of work.

Your geico express shop will never do this for you.

In Texas it is ILLEGAL to waive the deductible for repairs, check the Texas DOI website. Run away from shops or contractors doing this it is Insurance Fraud. Below is the law
Sec. 27.02. CERTAIN INSURANCE CLAIMS FOR EXCESSIVE CHARGES.

(a) A person who sells goods or services commits an offense if:

(1) the person advertises or promises to provide the good or service and to pay:

(A) all or part of any applicable insurance deductible; or

(B) a rebate in an amount equal to all or part of any applicable insurance deductible;

(2) the good or service is paid for by the consumer from proceeds of a property or casualty insurance policy; and

(3) the person knowingly charges an amount for the good or service that exceeds the usual and customary charge by the person for the good or service by an amount equal to or greater than all or part of the applicable insurance deductible paid by the person to an insurer on behalf of an insured or remitted to an insured by the person as a rebate.

(b) A person who is insured under a property or casualty insurance policy commits an offense if the person:

(1) submits a claim under the policy based on charges that are in violation of Subsection (a) of this...

I know Costco does have a deal with Ameriprise in place, and my parents have been debating about switching for a while. Good to know they along with Mercury don't really steer you like CSAA does.

Very funny, here in Austin there are several ads running on FM radio non stop "We will waive your insurance deductible". Also there are billboards, and signage on the front of shops saying they do the same.

They are not small mom/pop shops they are pretty big.

When I was in Florida this week, I heard an ad saying we will pay you $100 if you let us replace your windshield using insurance. I haven't seen that method used before.
