I don’t know how many of those cheap hand pumps you screw onto gear oil bottles I have bought in my life but I know it’s more than two. I either lose them or break them, and even under the best conditions they are a bit of a pain to use lying on my back on the driveway with an inch of clearance to pump. By the time I’ve pumped half a quart my shoulder is killing me.

What’s the better option? What do professionals use?

Don't know about professionals

I used a Sucky Squeeezy like this for my Toyota Aygo

I use a 500ml fluid extractor. Works great for any fluid I want to extract or inject. No more scraping RTV off and putting it back on the diff covers.

Sucky Squeezy picture added ;)
I have one of those I’ve used to suck out brake fluid but I think the brake fluid did something to the seal. It won’t hold a vacuum anymore, although something as viscous as gear oil might seal better.

1 gallon pump up sprayer that i tapped with a 3/8 barb going to an air regulator and quick disconnect. set it for 60psi and have the pump sprayer control for on/off. heated and bent the tip into a U shape so i could fill gm transmissions without a dip stick.

works great and still has the manual pump for when away from compressed air.

They are cheap, get a two pack. Or a smaller one for brake fluid only.

I have one of these. Gets used once every few years. Looks like it was $15 when I got it ten years ago.

This is the way. Every other way is more expensive and/or cumbersome.

You can just use the garden sprayer as it is with the spray tip removed.

it’s the best home made tool i own. rear ends, transmissions, transfer cases etc easy and mess free versus pumping those stupid hand pumps and having hoses come out and spill fluid everywhere.

Also the Mityvac glorified garden sprayer really is nice. It comes with the proper fittings to thread into transmissions like the Toyota AB60/A750/A760 and makes life soooo easy. On some side-fill transmissions it's difficult to get a "hooked" fill tube in there due to space/angle constraints. Furthermore sometimes you're filling beyond the fill hole to then later do the level check with the standpipe
