I just got my Redline order from our site sponsor. I put a sample of each gear oil product I have in the freezer at 0F.

Product ------------color------------ observation

Redline MTL -------- clear red --------- free flowing
Redline 80W-140 ---- clear orange ------- thick
Mobil One 75W-90 --- almost water clear --- pours ok
Castrol Hypoy 80W-90 - dark greenish brown - almost solid

No wonder my Toyota would not shift in the cold on 80W-90 dino.

Jimbo my first year in Michigan I had 80W140 in my 5-SPD 4Runner. Lets just say that winter shifting was a chore. As soon as I had some cash I changed it out to 70W90.

Previously I was liveing in Hinesville Ga. so 140Wt oil worked just fine!

At freezing, the SAE 250 is 50,000 cSt. But I still find it in transmissions. After doing all this research I drained the 80W-90 from my 4Runner and put in 75W-90. Big difference, even at 10C (50F).

Let's bring that image into the post

It looks like the 250 stuff will never hit the side of the graph...it must be a solid at that temp...
