When you mention the book "
says full syn. 75-90", is there a specific requirement that they address, or simply "recommend"?
There are many robust and hearty dinos that meet the same performance criteria of many syns.

Check out the current QPL list (they update it about once a month)
You will see many dino lubes on there that meet the tough SAE J2360 spec.
I'm not saying you should not use syns; there are some good reasons to use syns (uber cold temps and greatly extended OCIs).
I'm just stating you may not NEED syns. I would recommend using whatever the OEM specs, if under warranty. However, don't be confused by what is recommended and what required. Do some research.
Ironicaly, the last time I checked, the Mobil 1 gear lube was NOT on the approved list, but their dino Mobilube was! The Mobil Delvac syn gear oil is on the list, but not the typical and common Mobil 1 gear lube at the parts store. That does not mean that the Mobil 1 is not capable, but it does infer that it either cannot pass the standard, or they choose not to submit it for testing (we do not know which, because the PRI does not report what fails, only what passes). But we do know that the Mobilube dino gear oil is approved to that standard.
