Question for Bob is the oil guy:

Do you think that the #267 gear lube would have any effect on lessening a ring & pinion whine between 45 & 50 mph? This is a Chevrolet 1/2 ton rear end with a 8.6" ring gear. It is the G80 GM option which is the Eaton locking type.

Thanks,

westex

Westex,

Rear end whines generally come from an alignment problem/wear between the gears. The 267 can help a little by the cushioning of the oil but there is no kind of grantees that it will resolve or quiet down that problem as a lot depends on how severe the problem is. Sorry can't give you a more definitive answer than that.

Thanks Bob for your prompt reply.
This whine is very light and only occurs at 45 to 50 mph. I only have about 800+ miles on it. I hate to take it to the dealer and let those ASE Goobers mess with it. I've had bad luck doing that in the past.
Thanks again. I will probably give the #267 a try. I think the moly may have some effect on it. If it does I will let you know in a follow-up post.

Regards

Westex
