My first post and I'm 75, combat disabled, and still wrenching. To keep riding in the wind I now use a sidecar rig because of my balance. I just purchased this 2011 Ural that was used very little, 1,225 miles. The owners manual calls for 20W50 Castrol for the engine and the same 20W50 for the gear box. The rear differential takes 80/90Wt. gear oil. This bike was made in Russia so not super reliable and the gear box ( non syncro) should be treated better. I plan on using Mobil 630 ISO-220 as I still have a few quarts from years ago. I'm in NY and only ride May-December so not real cold. I'll use the same in the rear along with adding magnetic drain plugs.
What do you folks think of my choice.

Welcome to the site; I have no info but looked into Urals a few years ago out of curiosity. Interesting back story to say the least.

I believe they make a 2WD version.

gotta love a Hack, you can take a doggie or a friend!!. reliability is said to be getting better, but its the only ready to go option there is. check out adventurerider/hacks as well as many U-tubes for info on upkeep. i have a "chair' i was going to put on my 2012 bonneville but due to comfort decided not to, then got a 19 triumph street scram + found out a subframe + electrics were more than i wanted to spend. sidecars are neat + i am lucky enough to have a great shop near me Freedom Sidecars in Middleburg Pa, in business a long time + they do it all, correctly. reputable sidecar specialists are few so if you need help Claude the owner is a great guy + he answers questions on Facebook as well, good luck with your rig, got an e-mail Ural is moving so they can get back to producing rigs soon!

The Urals are getting better than the early ones for sure. This is my first as I bought it for the reverse gear, always pushing the rig backwards was getting old. I hope it's as good as my made up BMW rig, 71 R60/5 with a vintage Ural car on it. With the leading link front fork I shouldn't need a steering stabilizer like my homemade rig. I wouldn't buy the 2WD though, no off road in my future, not to mention they handle worse on dry payment. This one sat for 7 years and because of evil E10 both the tank and carbs need work.
OH, the engine will get 15-40 Rotella diesel oil, been using it for years on all my old engines.

Personally, I’d use what the manufacturer calls for. I’d use Castrol Actevo 20W50 and your favorite brand of 80W90. I’m not familiar with the Mobil you mentioned. Does it meet the specs in your manual?
