Hi all,

Now we have choices between Castrol Edge (5w30) and the Castrol German version (0w-30), which one is the winner or do you prefer? I have a 2002 Toyota Camry XLE V6 71000 miles located in NY and is it ok to use 0w30 since it's very thin?

Between those two neither but If I HAD to choose it would be the Edge in 5w30.

Don't know what your particular vehicle prefers, which may be the more important question, but I switched to a 0w30 on the advice of a fellow in Toronto, who has the same engine as mine, near Buffalo.

I had 115K on it when I switched, and the 0w30 worked well immediately. I like the cold-start much better with it. After warm-up, it doesn't seem to get too thin, either.

What I found locally was Mobil 1 0W-30, which features a blurb on the bottle that it met or exceeded spec for 5w30 and 10w30.

I wanted to try Castrol once I found it locally, but as far as the weight goes, I'd give 0w30 a try for this area.

The 5w30 Edge is way thinner than the GC 0W-30.

Unless you plan on doing extended OCI's, I recommend GC, unless you can get a really good deal on Edge.

Speaking of Castrol synth,I haven`t seen their Syntec 20W50 in a long time. I always see the 5W50 though.

GC is a long life oil, too. Check out the specs it meets.

Both good products. Buy the one on sale. GC has a loyal following and has been a very consistent performer over the years, so it has a great track record, if that matters to you :)

I have no experience with GC but I am liking the Castrol EDGE 5w30 I have in my car now. Nice, quiet and smooth. It's probably just my imagination but it does seem more quiet than with the Syntec Blend 5w30 (which was thicker by ~2cSt) that I ran prior. I'll probably try the Syntec Blend again after this fill to see if it really was my imagination or not.

It is a 30 wt. GC is on the thick end of the 30 rating when at temps.
