Just went off Amsoil and other Synthetics and just gone back to FormulaShell conventional and a oversized Motorcraft filter for $3.55 at Walmart. Why FormulaShell? Because it is cheap around here in Menards and that is before they even put it on sale. Under 2 bucks a quart everyday..... Will run this for a while.

What has been your experience with Formula Shell? How different is it from Pennzoil? Since they are both owned by Shell...

I just know that my local auto parts store has begun to sell it for $0.49/qt when you buy it by the case, so I'll be using this for the foreseeable future.

I know your not asking me, but i thought i'd answer anyway :)

I've used lots of pennzoil, quakerstate, and formula shell. Formula Shell and Quakerstate and similar in their formulations, being slightly less moly than pennzoil, but more boron, which is in my opinion a good thing.

Pennzoil is slightly more expensive than the other two due to slightly better base oils, which help give it ever so slightly better pour temps and slightly better (less) cold cranking viscosity, but while i may be in the minority, i like the added boron in QS and Shell.

If you can find FormulaShell for a good price, by all means use it with confidence. It's an excellent oil. Their 5w30 and 10w30 are blended a bit on the beefy side but are still energy conserving, which i like. The 5 qt jugs at AutoZone are an excellent value.

Formula Shell is the new Havoline

[censored] I would too. I need to look around for a deal like that.

Not seen it that cheap at $0.49/qt, used it in the past and seemed no different than any other conventional oil.

After endless time on here reading over posts of Terry while he was here and countless UOA vs. number of folks who have gone several 100,000's of miles on conventional unless I decide to go racing who cares.

Sure the gear box is definitely gonna stay Synthetic.

Think the most nagging thing I have known about was from school a couple years ago on a Big Rig you could get a double length warranty on rear ends, axles and transmissions by using Synthetic. Use synthetic in the motor and you get nothing. My belt drive neon is nowhere near as hard on oil as a diesel with all that soot. Still might go back to Amsoil for filter or maybe just get a Mobil1 but gonna just stick with conventional oil in the block from here on out.

Now if it were a RACE CAR it would get Redline without hesitation but at the end of the day it is not.

Sure I don;t have to change as often with Synthetic but at the price I get Shell for I can change 3X and still save money. Heck and since I have a lift at work changing the oil is not a problem and give me a change to look over the ride.
