Everything else being the same, is one better than the other? Which one would you choose?

The dryer in question is Samsung 448, AGP and AEP models respectively.

Gas LG front loader is what we have. Front loaders are awesome, pack a lot of clothes, use less water for the washer. Dryer is gas, takes less time to dry, uses less energy.

I've had both and will never go back to electric. Gas works faster and cheaper. Mine's a kenmore. The one before that was a 15 year old whirlpool. I've had a whirlpool electric and while it did the job, it was inefficient and slow.

If you have hookups for both, no contest. Gas. Faster, cheaper, all around better.

A plus is you can use the 220v circuit for your garage air compressor without your wife making you unplug it when she has to do the laundry. ;-)

I have an electric and like it. How much laundry do you do? The brand I like best is Speed Queen. Still American made and commercial duty. Simple but gets the job done. My electric bills are reasonable so it doesn't seem to have much of an impact there. We do about 4 loads per week. Keep in mind that a good washer wrings more water out, so less drying time.

You can use your gas and electric bills and figure out the cost to get a certain btu output and calculate the difference and see if one is better than the other. As to internal differences the heat source for the gas may well be larger, as has to draw a draft, and either the overall size of the dryer may have to be larger or if same size box, then may have less capacity, a smaller drum.

exactly.

A good washer spins so fast you don't need to burn any energy to dry the clothing afterwards, if you have a few hours to wait.

Gas dryers are typically more expensive up front, but they quickly make up for it in operating costs. Very much true in my area.

The exception may be where electricity is cheaper than gas, such as in California, where a lot of the electricity is hydro or geothermal.

I'm a big advocate of using solar power to dry clothes.

We had a newer style electric one at our old house and an older style one that is gas at this house (came with it) and I can say without a doubt that the Gas is not only cheaper to operate but dries the clothes a lot quicker.

Clothesline:
1.Saves $500-700/year on utilities and machine costs.
2.Get a little fresh air.
3.Clothes last longer.
4.Smell better!

Gas hands down. That goes for stoves and hot water heaters too. I can't stand the way clothes smell after coming off the clothes line.

I use electric dryers. My last one was a 24 years old G.E. and still working when I got rid of it. It started making a strange sound and at that age I felt it was time to get rid of it. It never needed any repairs. I replaced it with a Whirlpool and I hope I did not make a mistake. I am total electric and on average billing I pay $119.00 per month. I was and dry at least 1 load per day. Sometimes more.

Gas all the way, if you are set up for it. I've had both in various homes, and the gas is definitely faster and cheaper when you look at the cost per BTU (at least for our energy sources here). Costs more up front, but redeems itself very quickly!
