Gas Prices - Probably the REAL Reason

That price had nothing to do with supply and demand. It was all greed and panic.

LOL. You have no idea what economic demand is.

Who's reality are you talking about?

Why do houses, gold, milk and everything else go up and down?

It is because of individuals people's buying choices vs supply of product.

Every individual has a different "reality".

Prices CAN be manipulated. But they can't be manipulated for a long term. If the underlying fundamentals don't support the price, the market will find out.

Folks who speculate, trying to ride the trend can get burnt this way. The "smart money" tends to get out before the bubbles pop. Be it real-estate, energy prices, or whatever.

I do agree that markets can be manipulated. I simply don't agree that it can be done on a long term basis.

When they are manipulated, then when they correct, they typically correct enough to cancel out the manipulated price.

Oil was very high back in 08, IIRC and then crashed. It stayed very low, lower than it was before it went up.

Had it not been manipulated, the market may have been happy to stay closer to where it was. Instead, the bottom fell out and we enjoyed lower prices for quite a while.

Yup. And since I don't live paycheck to paycheck I can handle a few months of $4/gal gas since I'll "get it back" when the pendulum swings the other way and it's been (being?) subsidized by traders making wrong moves.

This is like people griping about pump prices tracking crude up overnight but dropping like a feather later. If you look at the gas station owner's average profit for the year, it's pretty terrible... even if he got a few sweet weeks in there once or twice.
