The gas gauge on a 1999 Chevrolet Malibu drops from 1/4 tank to empty and does not show anything in between. And it happens quickly. Is this normal for these cars? Is there a cheap fix or is this a "don't worry about it" type thing. thanks
There has been documented cases of high sulphur content in some gas that coats the fuel sender contacts and causes that problem. The only thing that works is Techron. I'd run 2 bottles of techron fuel cleaner in your tank and see if that cures it. Otherwise, it may be bad gauge, ground, dirty connection or faulty PCM.
