Gas Cap Leak

Hi All,

it appears that the gas cap on my 97 F-150 is leaking, as indicated by the intermittent flatulence sound coming from the cap at idle. How big of a priority is fixing this? (apparently F@rt is censored...)

Fix it. It's a cheap fix that takes no additional time at your next fill-up.

No CEL display? Every late model (1997-2010) vehicle incl. F-150 and Fusion that I've owned with a gas cap issue has thrown codes.

had a 1999 dakota, traded for a 2001 dakota. moved the locking gas cap, light came on. turns out they take a different cap.

Funny, it isn't throwing a code for some reason... I'm going to fix it soon, just wondered what problems it would cause if I let it go a short while? Who knows how long its been doing this, its my wife's DD...

Not even worth it to ponder how long you can go with the problem, such a cheap fix.

If it's making noise it's actually kind of sort of working. Working more than leaving it off. Do you get any sort of whoosh when you open it?
