I have a couple of plastic ones and of course one of them comes with the retarded "Safety Spout" I only have one old fashioned one left. I guess they are not allowed to sell the older version. I guess I'll need to go back to a funnel. What a crock.

Why is the safety spout retarded? I just got one of those kind that you sit on the tank and it shuts off when the tanks full.

I've noticed that none of the new plastic gas cans for sale locally have the little vent any more. What happened to the vents?

Is this another example of us being protected for our own good?

Luckily, I'm covered for gas cans, & all mine have vents. I have 3 of the old trapezoidal red plastic Gott cans- one each in 5, 2 1/2, & 1 1/2 gallons. Plus a newer 1 gal plastic can in a different brand(Blitz?).

But if I lost 'em all & had to spend $$ for a new one without a vent, I'd be po'd!

I always thought plastic cans were a big step forward. And whether on a car, an outboard motor, or mower/lawn tractor(heck, anything with an engine), I like plastic gas tanks too. Reasons?
1. Plastic never rusts.
2. Less problems with condensation.
3. Plastic never rusts.

4. Less likely to get punctured by a small boo-boo than a thin modern steel can.
5. Plastic never rusts.

And then there's the big reason:
Plastic never rusts!

My younger years were plagued with carburetor problems in outboard boat motors, lawn mowers, and old cars. The source of most of those carb problems? *Rust* from old steel fuel tanks & steel gas cans.

If you like steel gas cans, fine. They certainly look a lot more traditional, & I hope you can find something you like. But they're gonna have to drag me back to 'em kickin', punchin', bitin', & gougin' every step of the way.

I like that (wedco?) can you sit on the side of the filler, and it presses down the neck and opens up and lets the gas flow until you pick it up, and it doesn't "gurgle" either with the type of vent it has .

FWIW, blue water jugs (available at Wal Mart and other places) can still be found in the old style.

Not sure if they are OK for gas. But I suspect they are.

Army surplus stores sell metal Jerry cans.

Grainger sells all sorts of industrial containers. One has a metal spout. While it has no vent, it does have a valvee you operate. When the handle is pulled, the fill port tips open. Very clever indeed. I use this one for my dirt bikes as it never spills.

yeah... those CARB no waste sealed spouts that come on the blitz and similar cans are terrible. Ive never wasted as much fuel in my life.

To pour gas into the lawnmower or weedwacker, I need to manually pull back on the spout, to overcome the force of the spring that presses it up... overcome the friction of the o-ring, which usually sticks, and then pour it into the funnel, which I cant see around to gauge tank fullness.

I get gas on my hands, and its a mess.

I like plastic containers... but these spring loaded spouts stink bigtime.

I use the regular blitz ventless cans and have never had a single problem. Much better than the metal cans of my youth in every way possible.

I fill the tank on my Echo string trimmer every weekend and never spill a drop.

I don't understand why people dislike the new type of cans. I think they are way better and easier to use.
