Is there a gap tool that could be used for every type of spark plug gap needed? Some spark plugs require a gap of .036 but not all feature this type of gap.Do you need to buy several gap tools as needed? Thanks Joe
I thought plugs came pre-gapped these days? And that it was bad for the plug to bend them? The expensive plugs made of exotic materials meant to 100k+ that is.
You're supposed to use a wire type gauge to measure/set plug gaps but I've been using these plier type gap tools with blades for 4 decades without issue.
If you go with the plier type tool, avoid this type with the round disc:
I've found that in use, the anvil on top of the disc covers up the gap markings. I always felt the need to dig out my wire gages to confirm the gap. I tossed these in the trash after a few uses.
Wire is fine and recommended for non exotic material plugs, for platinum and iridiums you want to use a feeler and use the bending tool on the Ground electrode on all types.
Never try gapping surface or multi electrode plugs like Bosch +4.
