Well. I made a loan to someone I shouldn't of (long story.) When calling to try to ask the details of tomorrow, (which is the original agreed-upon day,) I get a lot of .. loudmouth threatening talk. What do you make of when people do all that type of stuff? And has anything similar ever happened to you?

Me? Of course, I provoke over the phone, since it entertains, and if I am out a double-digit amount of money, I am going to have my fun.

What say you?

Write it off and never do it again.

BTW, Calling this person to provoke is harassment, which is a criminal misdemeanor in many states.

I doubt you will find a visit from the police or a lawsuit very entertaining.

I learned along time ago....don't lend money, to anybody.
My kids? I figured it was a loan with no date of payback or I.E. a gift.

What does a gang have to do with this? Why doesn't he get money from whatever it is they do?

It will if you keep it up.

If I am going to lend anyone money I've already written the money off with no expectation of payback.
As far as threats go it doesn't happen to me. I don't sleep and have more time on my hands than most, and my reputation precedes me.
I'm too old to fight,so I don't. My lawyer always has a retainer and the second I see the flashing lights I've already made the call and he's on the line taping every word.
Its amazing what the cops will "forget" when you've got every word they've said at arrest time recorded.

Loaned money to.

I was very naive, QP/all.

A female one.. I should have KNOWN they weren't gonna do what they say. But, no, it's cool.. I try to befriend, and I get all sorts of threats/reasons why not to be given back.. !

Scum. I love how people can accept a loan, then say "Well, you GAVE it."

Just think, for whatever amount of money you let them borrow, you don't have to deal with them anymore. I let a guy I didn't like borrow like $50, and of course he didn't pay. But it was worth the money when every time I see them he goes the other way and avoids talking to me. Well worth the money.

Ahhh, then forget visits/lawsuits. Keep calling to provoke because you find it entertaining, you'll get yourself a drive by instead.

www.judgejudy.com

Small claims or send an attorney letter prior to that. Templates available online(legalzoom). Small claims cost about $70 or so to file I would guess.

I don't get the whole "gang member mentality" thing. Are you going to tell all your co-workers about it or something? Assuming it is a co-worker.

You work at DD and Burger King, driving jalopies because you have no money to your name. Yet you loan money.

Welfare is your friend.

I have never loaned a dime to anyone nor let my wife do it either. Even family and friends in need. It sours relationships.

He's going to spend $70 to try to get his $50 back.

Or was it $10?

It beats going to jail and getting arrested. Some jurisdictions award court costs as part of damages. Plus you can be on tv with some of the court shows. Which may help launch a reality tv show.

You made someone an informal short-term loan in good faith.
They're stiffing you.
They know they owe you the coin, which is why they're using defensive trash-talk on the phone.
I'd make one more phone call, and I'd shame them by telling them that you work hard for what you have and you hope that they're happy for having taken from you however many hours of work the sum involved equates to.
These sound like people well on their way to enjoying the hospitality of a state correctional facility.
Small time thieves (some bigger dollar embezzlers as well) are among the major catagories of those who do multiple state prison stays.
I've seen a few.
