Think it's safe to do a radiator drain and fill on a 07 civic with g05? After reading some stuff on here about coolant, i'm confused as [censored], but also wonder if g-o5 is a more universal coolant for most make and models. I'm also thinking about switching my toyota terecel green coolant to g05 and my dexcool silverado to it as well.

Some people will tell you that the silicates in G-05 will make the water pump rip itself right out of any Japanese car, run across the garage, and cower behind your toolbox.

Personally I believe that G-05 is as close to a universal coolant as there is.

Honda uses its own (proprietary) coolant. Why wouldn't you just pay the extra $5 and use the right stuff? There is nothing that I know of that is wrong with Honda coolant.

Honda uses an OAT which contains phosphates instead of silicates and no 2EHA like Dexcool.

Toyota uses a similar coolant.

If you want to use one coolant for those two and a GM Silverado, go with the Toyota or Honda OAT, or go with G-05.

G-05 uses silicate to achieve the same purpose as the phosphate in the Asian formulas, but in amounts small enough to avoid any problems.

Like both the Asian coolant and DexCool it is long-lived.

And it is cheaper than the Asian coolants.

I'm a little skeptical of the 50/50 mixes. When oreilly ran the peak 50/50 universal coolant free after rebate i picked it up and did a radiator drain and fill in the silverado. Winter came and got cold one night, i went and drove about 5 miles and truck started to overheat, stupid mix froze up in the hoses! I also hate paying 13 dollars for a mix, which is essentially 26 a gallon.

I would not buy the mix coolants.

It is easier to use full strength on the initial fill and then make your own 50/50 mix using an empty coolant jug and distilled water.

G-05 is about the only coolant choice besides Dexcool that you can readily and affordable get in full-strength. There's Green but it doesn't make much sense to use it instead of G-05 with its shorter service life. The Silverado should be fine with Dexcool though. You could use Peak Global in the them. It's a little harder to find and less proven though, and I'm not sure that it works betetr than Dexcool or not.

Maybe you just got a bad batch.

Honda Type II stuff works great. There is no need to service the cooling system until 10/120k anyway. But if you really insist, stick with Type II.

Ford recently ditched G-05 for Mazda FL22 (called Ford Specialty Green Engine Coolant) in its vehicles that share engine technology with Mazda. Mazda FL22 is a second generation P-OAT coolant developed by CCI (the dominant Japanese coolant company) that is very similar to Honda Type II coolant and other second generation P-OAT coolants.

But why change coolant in a 2007 Honda Civic? The replacement interval for Mazda FL22 is 10 years/120,000 miles. The interval for Honda Type II should be similar, but it is governed by the Maintenance Minder. The Maintenance Minder code for changing 2007 Honda Civic coolant is 5, which I think corresponds to the least frequent service interval of any scheduled maintenance (changing spark plugs is code 4).

Agree with everyone suggesting to leave it alone for much longer. Wait till this time next year if you must... it will four years of service.
