Ford parts guy needed last 8 digits of my VIN to determine which Aisan transmission I have. He determined that I needed Mercon V and mentioned something about it not being the “normal” transmission? Anybody have any experience or knowledge about this? I just want to be sure I am putting the correct fluid in the car.

I always use the Amsoil product finder for questions like this.
Thanks. I found the code designations on the door label and the tranny is an Aisan F21. And the Amsoil site says T-IV fluid.
Check the dipstick. My niece's Fusion had "T-IV"stamped right on it. If yours is same, do not use Mercon V....or else. 
It's an Aisin unit, takes Toyota T-IV/Mobil 3309 fluid
