funny but not really

We had a cat that slept on top of the car. He would jump off when you started up. One day he didn't and another driver flagged down my wife to tell here there was a cat standing on the roof while she was going down the highway. Luckily it wasn't very far from home. The cat was, fortunately, not harmed and he never slept on the roof again.

HAd a neighbors cat who used to crawl up under the hood of my 66 Chevy pickup in the Winter to sleep on the warm engine. I always knew he was there and would knock on the hood in the morning and he would jump out before I started the engine. This was the days of the big metal cooling fan. Well one day my buddy decides to stop over and borrow my truck at 5:00am and I am just awakened and forget to tell him about Henry sleeping under the hood. Well he turns the key and in 1 second shuts it down and comes pounding on the door telling me my engine is making a screaming noise and he thinks the fan belt is loose. I open the hood and here is poor Henry sanwiched between the hood and the big black air cleaner...minus his tail. One trip to the Vet later and Henry was fine but never again crawled under my truck.

I used to want to be a Vet, until I worked for one during a summer of my youth. That one summer, I bet we sewed up 5-6 cats from car engine "experiences". And, that's just the ones that survived long enough to be sewed up. Too sad for a young lad...

Oops! You got to hate when that happens.

I've never done that - but one time about 30 years ago I was coming home from work. I had worked about 18 hours and was very tired.
I stopped for gas, went in and paid for it (I think it was 10.00 or so) walked out - got in my car and drove home. When I got home I happened to look at my gas gauge and noticed it was still on empty! It then dawned on me that although I'd paid for the gas - I never pumped it!

I was too embarrassed to go back to that station so I went somewhere else and got gas!

Titan it is sad. I did some work at one and it affected me too. I dont see how anyone can do that job but Im glad they can. Yes the injured animals are sad and traumatic to see but constantly hearing the deafening calls from kennel animals wanting attention because theyre anxious and restless to get out takes its toll too. Better to get a pet sitter if you need to leave town because at the vet they get very little attention as the workers just dont have near adequate time enough to mess with them but just a few minutes daily. There are some animals that dont flip out all day but they still have to hear the deafening calls of other stressed out animals right next to them all day so its not pleasant for them being there.

Thats my advice for the day is to get someone to pet sit your animals while youre away so they'll be happy and relaxed with a lot of attention.
