Fumoto drain valve, not so great.....

Even though the oil flows out of them at a slower rate initially, I'd be willing to bet that if you're the type of person that lets the oil drain for a half hour or more, it all evens out, because by that point in time it's slowed to a slow drip anyhow.
 
I have one on both of my vehicles. I have the one with a nipple and hose attachment. It is a very clean drain as I can just put the hose directly in the used oil container. I have been very happy with it on the Subaru as it has a top mounted oil filter. There is absolutely no mess with that OC. The Honda has a bottom mounted oil filter and it still makes a mess and I have to use a drain pan for the filter. I still get oil on my hands taking off the filter. The only reason I am happy with the Honda version is that I know I am not going to strip the aluminum threads on the bottom of the pan with the quick valve.

How do you get the used oil container under the Forester? Do you lift the front end for oil changes? I've got a small pit in my garage. My plan is to put a small shelf in the pit, just the right height so I can put an empty oil jug under the car and put the hose in it.

After doing a few oil changes with the top mounted filter on my Outback, and a Fumoto valve, I wonder why every manufacturer doesn't design engines with the oil filter as convenient located. No muss. No fuss. Not a drip of spilled oil. Not a drip on my hands.

When I ordered my Fumoto valve, I ordered a few spare of the plastic hose attachment, anticipating that they may wear out. But from what I can see so far, one will probably last for many years.
