It's been 30K miles since I did the auto-rx treatment but never followed up with the 3 ounce maintenance dose. I just ordered another bottle the other day. Do you think I need to start from the beginning again and pour the entire bottle in or can I just begin a 3 ounce maintenance dose?

I would do a full treatment. I am an Auto-rx nut. I believe that frequent cleaning will prevent problems. I do an annual Auto-rx treatment.

Annual???? I do annual oil changes.

What it comes down to is your OCI and oil chosen. If you have long OCIs with mineral oil, then do the Arx. If you're practicing shorter OCIs or using a synth, just start a maintenance dose.

Annual sounds a little anal to me

I don't think an annual Auto-rx treatment is necessary. After a full treatment of Auto-rx, just use the 3 oz. maintenance dose as intended to keep the engine clean. I decided on just doing a maintenance dose. My rear main seal is leaking oil again. It has returned after switching to synthetic after the auto-rx treatment I did 30K miles ago. I made the decision to go back to a good conventional oil for now on. Probably Castrol GTX or Havoline with a 3 oz. maintenance dose and a 5K mile OCI.

Actually my rear main seal did not start leaking again after switching back to synthetic. I switched back to Amsoil 10W30 and did not leak after 30K miles. As soon as I switch to German Castrol syn 0W30 is when it started to leak....took less than 1K miles. Back to conventional days with a good SM oil like Havoline....and maintenance dose of course.
