Fuel pump problem

I replaced the factory fuel pump in my 2002 Ford Taurus 134,000 several months ago with a pump and sending unit from Auto Zone. The gauge has stopped working right after the install and the car does not start properly acts like it is starving for fuel. Once running it idles and accelerates fine. Engine light states it is the pump, still under warranty. Question is should I get a factory pump this time? Any suggestions? I am frustrated these are a pain to put in. My buddy who is a mechanic says it could be pressure regulator.

what brand is the autozone one? sounds like the check valve in the pump is defective which will cause the [censored] starts try turning the key to the on position 3 time so on.. off.. on.. off.. on and then start and see if that makes it better slight one second pauses between the on and off

Was it an airtex brand pump? They're really only suitable for the "I'm getting rid of this car in a couple of months" crowd.

Yes, and clean the tank well.

Get a Bosch from Amazon.com - I think it was $180 cheaper compared to one of the chain stores.
