What (if any) fuel mileage drop have you noticed with Summer EPA blend gasoline starting to show up ? Not sure exactly how much MPG I am losing - but recently I noticed on my late model Hyundai and son's late model Kia that the computerized trip monitors are going crazy with reduced average MPG as well as lower total miles estimates per tank of gas over the last few weeks. I'd be interested to know your thoughts on this ...

We have had some trouble too and understand that some stations have more Ethanol than others. Some tested south of us had well over the usual 10% amount. In some cases it was much higher.

Often the same supplier supplies gasoline to several different stations.

See if you can find a station there that has 100% gasoline.

Yes, a lot of butane in "winter gas" good for starting, but not as much energy content. The alcohol thing has made this harder to figure out.

So generally you should have better MPG with Summer gas than Winter gas ? Why ? (I though with extra clean air restrictions for Summer gas - MPG would be worse ).

It is my understanding that in some states summer gas has less ethanol and other winter additives, so you are getting more gasoline in your gas.

There is gas and "winter gas." But with ethanol is there really winter gas anymore?

Warm air you should see better MPG in summer. A/C should be negligent in today's cars since most systems run the A/C year round keeping moisture off the windows during winter.

Much of what is blamed on winter gas is simply from side effects of winter.
Try another tank or two and see what the pattern is.
Most everybody gets better net gas mileage in the summer.

Only if the defroster and fan are on.

No, with my AUTO function the AC is on if I have it set at 75 in the summer or 90 in the winter. I do 75 year round but of course if heat is coming out it goes to the feet.
As soon as I override AUTO by turning the AC off, everything fogs.

engine warmed outside air contains moisture and will collect on the cold windows. Many cars are designed to use the AC to remove the moisture in the winter. I only need defrost if there is frost.

My MPG stays constant in the summer even with AC off. It's that efficient. Winter it goes down from the cold. Even when I don't run the air at all.

Its only fogging because you are going from cold to warm. If your AC compressor runs continuously in the winter you have a problem not to mention wasting a lot of gas (aka money).

There is not a lot of moisture in winter air. It is much dryer than summer air.
The reason the AC works in winter is to keep the oil circulated, and seals lubed for the imminent return to summer use.
And it only works sometimes in some settings. Below 40 deg F, it won't work at all, until underhood temps/ambient heat warm things up.
No difference winter summer fuel mileage?
OK...

So all Nissan Maximas have something wrong with them? It's how my car ran from day one from the factory designed by Nissan and every single car like mine. Come over to Maxima.org and find out. I'm just the moderator for my generation section, so I am kind of exposed to info about my car. Whatever the reasoning, the A/C light stays on no matter the temp setting in AUTO. You can certainly override it by turning A/C off. But like I mentioned, windows fog instantly in the winter.

I said no difference MPG with or w/o A/C running. Of course like I mentioned I see higher MPG in the summer. But with or w/o A/C the summer MPG is consistent and the same for winter. I did not say my summer and winter are the same. I was talking about with A/C on or off summer or winter.

In the winter, gas contains more volatile components (meaning they evaporate more readily). This is beneficial for cold starts, and since the air is cold, they still don't evaporate that fast.

In the summer, cold starts are not an issue, and gasoline evaporates quickly, which contributes to smog. Therefore it's beneficial in the summer to have less volatile gas, which also has slightly higher BTU/gal.
