Fuel filters for honda engines

In one year I've had to clean the carb in my honda mower 3 or 4 times (lost count). I've never had to do this with any other mower I've owned. Engine runs well and all and I'm reasonably careful about fueling conditions, but if refueling in the wind it's inevitable that something gets in there.

Went to the motorcycle shop and bought two 1/4" inline fuel filters for $3 each. One for the mower, the other for the eu2000i-- last thing I want to do during an outage or while playing at a gig is to lose the generator because of dust in the carb.

Hoping this will alleviate carb woes. I can't figure out why honda doesn't use at least a strainer appropriately-sized to the carbs...

Has anyone tried this before and did it help?

I run one of these on my 2 HOnda engines inline.

After cleaning the carb on my Honda and seeing all of the tiny passages I installed a generic inline fuel filter. Even though I am careful, my gas cans have a surprising amount of dirt in the bottom of them when empty.

I also installed an inline filter on my Yamaha 6hp outboard.

If you are plugging constantly maybe you are using old gas? Or you are getting dirt from the gas station. I use stabil fuel stabilizer in all of my small engine fuel year around.
