Frontier plane hits trespasser at Denver

I do wonder what the story behind this might be?
Mentally disturbed or drugged or drunk beyond any sensible actions seems a likely explanation.

Once I was on a four lane freeway when I saw a guy stagger across the lanes. Looked homeless and likely intoxicated. I managed to not hit him, but I’m thinking he was probably hit or at least clipped. Looked up what I could and found a couple of fatalities that year, but none were about that time I saw it. So maybe he managed to get lucky.

"A pedestrian / vehicular incident occurred at the airport. Details of how this tragedy developed are unknown at this time", is a plainly accurate, sterilized statement of fact. It easily could've introduced that story.
After that, they should go to their graphics or social media.

Ironic to this angle of the thread is the fact that the pilot said, "...we just hit somebody"; factually accurate.

I was told years ago, news broadcasts' ratings didn't used to be included in viewership ratings (Nielsen / Arbitron). They are now.

And yes, I know this doesn't specifically address the subtle language differences Pablo was referring to. Diction and sentence structure is one among the things trial lawyers are paid for. And that's not a lawyer cheap shot.

Those familiar with DIA know that the runways are not easily accessible from any streets, roads etc. They are more or less in the boonies. The airport is huge from a land standpoint. Lots of open space around all the runways. This person had to go well out of their way to get on a runway at DIA, you wouldn't accidently stumble on one. To be walking down the middle of an active runway is even more bazar.

Well, at least he didn't suffer.:(

In spite of all the craziness in the world today, you have to step back for just a moment and wonder how messed up someone’s life could be that they chose to end their life in that manner.

That was not a misdirected hiker out for a stroll.

And as for “…..didn’t suffer,” it’s reasonable to postulate that getting sucked into the fan blades of a Pratt GTF engine would cause more pain than imaginable, even if momentarily.

It’s the smell from the smoking engine that the evacuated passengers are unlikely to forget for a while.

Yes, "pedestrian" means any person on foot. It doesn't judge why he is there or if he had a right to be there. "Trespassers" could also be in vehicles.

We’ll probably never know the real story. But it’s not impossible to get to the airport by car or public transportation. I doubt it was accidental being on the runway although getting hit may have been another matter.

All the headlines I read this AM were definitely as if the plane was amiss to hit an innocent person strolling innocently.

I try to temper everything in the so called news

"HOLD ON LADY, I NEED TO GET THIS 737 THROUGH THIS INTERSECTION!"

FOD = Foreign Objects Debris / Damage
He probably ended up in pieces amidst the compressor veins; making for a grisly recovery.
He got his, slo town. Totally glad a crash wasn't caused.

Do you think 'slide burn' sent those five mentioned to the hospital?

Infrared surveillance video was released. I won't post anything with the full video, but it wasn't like the guy who was hit was staggering across the runway.

What kind of inspection is required on the engine? That seems like a huge amount of stress in the rotating assembly being forced into the role of bean grinder.

I’m reasonably certain that engine is coming off the wing.

Someone apparently jumped the fence and got hit.

A lot of the reporting says “pedestrian” but I think trespasser is more descriptive.

Several other international airports are now looking at their perimeter fencing.
